Yahoo To Buy Tumblr-Deal Approved For $1.1bn

Yahoo has approved a deal to buy the blogging platform Tumblr for $1.1 bn, US media reports.  The final announcement is expected as early as Monday.

Tumblr is a blogging service based at New York. The service is run by a young New Yorker, David Karp who founded it in 2007. David Karp however is expected to remain in his office with his current role. Tumblr has attracted a huge crowd of bloggers due to it's unique design of amalgamating social services with blogging platform. According to Tumblr's home page it is know offering services to about 108 million blogs worldwide.

Yahoo in spite of being an Internet giant, has faced several ups and downs throughout 2012. In 2012 alone it discarded 1000 jobs. Yahoo was also seemed confused weather to focus on content or tools and technologies. Yahoo earns through advertisement revenue. On the other hand Tumblr is getting more and more popular, covering millions of bloggers. To retain the quality of it's services it also cancelled a decision of placing adds on it's blogs. The deal between Yahoo and Tumblr has worried many who are using an advert free Tumblr. Gokhan Acar, head of a blogging community at Istanbul told infocables that a possible advert on Tumblr may slow down the speed with which it is getting popularity.
