A touch from history
Some countries have their own historical reasons for celebrating the labour day, but the common origin of labour day goes back to 18th century. In 1800's during the industrial revolution in the united states, an average labour worked for 12 hours a day, 7 days a weak. In spite of this hard working period a worker was just able to earn not more than his food. Children of ages shockingly reaching up to 5 years were subjected to work in industries and fields under the same working conditions. Under this system, poor citizens were mostly exploited by the rich class.

As the industrial and agricultural systems in the united states were revolutionised, the working class gained enough strength to form a union and protest for the harsh working hours and the unjustful pay. With the passage of time they become more and more vocal. They managed protests and rallies and compelled employers to review their working hours and pay. In conjunction to the same movement, the Hay market Riot incident occurred in 1886 in which many labours and policemen were killed. On 5 September 1882, the labour union staged a long march from City Hall to Union square in New york City, marking the first labour day on the page of the history. These events finally enable the working union to make their legal and justful stance accepted. Since then the first Monday of September in the united states is celebrated as Labour day.
