The Wonderland Of Aogashima Island

Inside the Philippine sea is the World's only inhibited volcanic island-the Aogashima volcanic island. Aogashima is one of the most beautiful and spectacular places in the world. Aogashima has a total length of 3.5 kilometres and a width of 2.5 kilometres formed by the remnants of at least four submarine calderas and steep riges of volcanic depositions. It is a lush green and breathtaking part of land living in the beautiful songs of the sea.

Population
Aogashimja island is highly separated from the land, all alone inside the sea, a world in itelf. It is still considered as an active class-C volcano. Last eruption occurred in 1780's which perished almost half of the population. The remaining population was evacuated. After just 50 years some ambitious countrymen started inhabiting this dangerous piece of paradise again. As of 2009 Aogashima has a population of 205.

Aogashima is a wonderland
Aogashima is a land of wonder and beauty. In contrary to other parts of the world the population of Aogashima is said to be decreasing instead of increasing. The reason is the gradual flee of students to the mainland for their higher education. There is only a single primary school with about 25 students. Imagine a place with a few humans, no noise of traffic, no crowds of people, everything belongs to nature, extreme greenery where ever you look, and the peaceful and soothing sounds of sea waves striking the island-it is Aogashima island.

How to reach there(From the capital)
The wonderland of Aogashima is located at a distance of 358 kilometres from the capital Tokyo. They only way to reach there either by boat or by helicopter provided by Tokyo island shuttle service. For boats and ships there is literally no harbour because of the steep cliffs which start from within the sea.

• Aogashima is under the administration of Tokyo inspite of being 358 kilometres away.
• It is called a submarine island as it emerged from within the sea.
• The highest spot on the island is the peek of the rim of outer crater which is 432 meters above sea level.
• At the center of the island lies a geothermal sauna. There is a public cooking facility which uses the thermal energy of this sauna. This facility is public and free for everybody.
• The folk songs of this amazing island mostly depict the stories of people leaving the island.
