Foreign ministry spokesman Cho Tai-young's remarks came 2 days after Japanese adviser to Prime minister Shinzo Abe reached North Korea on a surprise visit. Commenting on the visit North Korean official said that the move will undermine establishing a united front against North in response to the communist country's war rhetoric and it's hostile programme of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).
Talking to reporters Cho said,
"It is important to maintain a close coordination, among the
Republic of Korea (South Korea), the U.S. and Japan, toward North
Korea, In that sense, we think that the visit by Iijima to North Korea is unhelpful,". Cho further said that Japan has informed that Jimia is due north on an official visit and expressed regret over late notification.
According to the North Korea's state media, Iijima met with with Kim Yong-il, the secretary of the North's Central Committee of the Workers' Party, on Wednesday, the media however didn't explain any special purpose of the visit. The visit has received condemnation from South, calling it an unhelpful move in establishing an opposition to North's Nuclear programme. Japan itself is highly opposed to the missile programme of North Korea and considers it a continuous threat to the region. It to be noted that Japan and North Korea don't have any diplomatic ties.
